The Hemingway Papas
hand lined for the largest fish at the Historic Seaport. The
fishing contest is part of the Hemingway Days celebration
of his birthday, usually the 3rd week of July. This is also
a part of the annual Sloppy Joe's Bar Papa Look-Alike Contest.
This was their 30th year sponsoring the contest. 2010. The
event took place in front of the Conch Republic Seafood Company.
I still wear my 30 year anniversary Contestant T-Shirt from
2010.
Several
Papas tried their luck at hand line fishing. It can be tricky
as everything is done by "feel". You don't want
to break the line, or give the fish too much line and get
tangled up on any submerged objects. They all did a good job!
The
Key West tourists seemed to enjoy watching the Gray Bearded
Papas compete for the largest fish.
I do not know what type of fish won. There are pictures above
that show the type of fish that were being caught. The
Fishing Contest winners each received a basket full of goodies.
